Definition

Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) is venture investment conducted by an established corporation directly or through a dedicated fund, subsidiary or externally managed vehicle.

Overview

CVC differs from independent venture capital because the corporate parent may value technology access, market insight, partnerships or strategic options alongside financial return. This can benefit startups through customers and resources, but it may also create conflicts, slow decisions or complicate relationships with competitors and later investors.
