Growth and crossover venture capital

Growth and crossover venture funds invest in later-stage private companies and may continue investing as those companies approach or enter public markets.

Entry type: Ranking category

Field: Venture Capital

Last reviewed: 24 August 2026

Definition

Growth & Crossover Venture Capital are venture-capital strategies focused on mature startups, large private rounds, pre-IPO financing and, for crossover mandates, selected public securities.

Overview

Underwriting places greater weight on revenue quality, unit economics, governance, market comparables and exit conditions than early-stage venture. The strategy can provide significant capital for expansion, but late entry valuations, limited control and dependence on IPO or acquisition markets can create pronounced vintage effects.
