Multi-strategy hedge funds
Multi-strategy hedge funds allocate capital across several trading teams and investment approaches within a common risk, financing and operational platform.
Definition
Multi-Strategy Hedge Funds are hedge funds that combine multiple relative-value, directional, event-driven, credit, equity or quantitative strategies under centralized capital and risk management.
Overview
The model can diversify sources of return and reallocate risk quickly, but it creates organizational complexity and dependence on portfolio-manager selection, leverage, internal capital charges and centralized controls. Some platforms employ many semi-independent teams; others use a more integrated investment process.
